The French Riviera in November is the place to be for a marathon with a certain 'je ne sais quoi'...
The French Riviera marathon is a relatively new kid on the block. But what it lacks in pedigree it more than makes up for in style. This event has a lot going for it and not just location, location, location!
It's held at a great time towards the end of the French autumn so the weather is still pleasant but cool so ideal running conditions. The race starts at 8.00am so it can be a little bit nippy on the start line but the weather improves throughout the morning meaning some nice warm sun when you finish.
Secondly, there's a great atmosphere. The route from Nice to Cannes goes through a number of small towns - evocative places like Antibes and Juan-les-Pins - where you get great encouragement from the locals. It also helps to break up the 26.2 miles as you head to a red carpet finish at Cannes. Yes - literally a red carpet!
The course is flat with great views up to the mountains and out across the Mediterranean. Runners have also commented on the food and drink stations; "almost like a buffet - all types of fruit, chocolate and sandwiches," said one. And that goody bag is apparently right up there with the best - quality Adidas technical T-shirt, stylish medal and a rucksack too.
