There’s a race for everyone this Saturday (6 April) at Winton Castle, Pencaitland.
The event, sponsored by Glenkinchie Distillery, offers a unique opportunity to run through some of East Lothian’s most beautiful countryside, and the grounds of the Castle itself.
Online entries are now closed, but limited places will be available on the day for the event’s three off-road races – part of Winton Castle’s two-day Spring Festival.
Runners can choose from the 10K (16+), 5K (16+), Junior 5K (11–15) or family 3.5K events. All routes are clearly marked, marshalled, and suitable for all abilities, but runners should be prepared to run on uneven, grass, gravel or mud surfaces.
Organisers would like to remind runners that all children under eight years of age must register and run with an adult. Any child collecting a race number without a designated adult taking part in the 3.5k race will not be permitted to run.
Water will be available at the halfway point on the 10K route and at the finish line, but everyone is encouraged everyone to bring their own water bottles, which can be filled in the Walled Garden before and after the race.Reusable Winton water bottles – and Winton Trail Run T-shirts – can also be purchased before and after the race.
Registration runs from 12noon to 1.30pm, with the first event, the 10k, starting at 2pm. Refreshments and entertainment will be running throughout the day in the Walled Garden festival area.
First, second and third placed runners in all categories will receive a Winton ‘Winner’ T-shirt and handmade limited edition Winton medal. All finishers will receive a biscuit medal which can be decorated as they please – or just eaten on the way back home!
