The 29th Medoc Marathon - the race that combines running with wine tasting - will be held on 7 September and organisers have announced that there is a science fiction theme for this year's event. The marathon was established in 1896 and sees thousands of participants dress up to take on the distance while sampling some of the finest wines Bordeaux has to offer.
The course is a single loop that winds its way round a circuit of over 50 chateaux, taking runners over country roads and through small villages. There are 23 drink stations offering both wine and water as well as French bread stuffed with foie gras and energy boosting bananas and oranges. To get a flavour of the race (figuratively speaking), you can view footage from last year's event on the Dailymotion website.
Sports Tours International is offering accommodation and entry packages for UK runners and they encourage entrants to get involved by dressing up: "With this year's theme set as sci-fi, grab the lightsabers and practice those Yoda voices for this unique, fun, and wine filled marathon!"
