In the eight months the Glasgow parkrun has been staged, the've only had a few light drizzles to contend with however the heavy rain of Friday night and Saturday morning didn't subdue numbers as 183 runners - 63 of whom were first timers - participated in the popular Pollok Park event.

Healthy turn-outs from both Motherwell AC and Westerlands CCC helped to ensure that race numbers remained high for the 36th Glasgow parkrun on Saturday August 15, despite a number of regular runners chosen to save themselves for Sunday's Achilles Heel Bella 5k.

Men's Race

Returning to winning form in his 11th appearance, Robert GILROY (SM30-34) of Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers won in a time of 16:00. Martin FISHWICK (JM15-19) representing Giffnock North AAC took second recording 17:18. Inverclyde's David MCELHINNEY (VM40-44) placed third in a time of 17:27.

Women's Race

In her eigth appearance, Jacqui THOMSON (VW45-49) of Victoria Park/City of Glasgow AC won the Women's Race in a time of 19:56. Jacqui beat Westerland's Ellie HOMEWOOD (SW30-34) by 33 seconds. Joanne CLARK (VW35-39) of Motherwell AC placed third in a time of 20:52.

Running in her fourth parkrun, Marie-Louise Fox continued to improve her time, finishing with a new PB of 26:33. Marie-Louise told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE "I've just started running and I find this a great event to test my progress, without putting myself under any pressure."
