Foxlake Adventures, Scotland’s cable wakeboarding park, is set to host East Lothian’s first 50k ultra marathon on Saturday 23 April 2016. The John Muir Way Ultra Marathon follows on from the successful Foxtrail Winter Running Series, consisting of five trail runs from 10 to 20k.
Over 100 runners are expected to sign up for the ultra marathon starting at Port Seton and finishing at Foxlake, taking in some of the east coast’s most stunning beaches and historic sites along the John Muir Way, including Longniddry Bents, Archerfield Walled Garden, North Berwick Law and John Muir Country Park. Relay teams can also enter, where teams of two can both run 25k each.
The race registration will take place at Foxlake Adventures where cars can be parked for the duration of the race. Transport via coach to the race start in Port Seton will be provided as part of the £38 entry fee. The race will finish at Foxlake.
Prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female winners will include a goody bag from sponsors Nathan, Honey Stinger and Feetures Running Socks.
John Whittaker, race director, said: “For those who fancy a step up in distance to try an Ultra-run; we believe we have created the ideal opportunity. The John Muir Way Ultra is just a bit longer than a marathon, it follows mixed trails and footpaths along the coastline of East Lothian without any major changes in elevation and it is most likely to have a following breeze pushing the runners along.
For those awaiting runners at the finish line, there will be opportunities to try out cable wakeboarding, which is the world’s fastest growing watersport using an overhead cable that pulls you over the surface of the lake, the Foxfall over-water, obstacle ropes course and inflatable ringo rides or take it easy at the award-winning café.
The John Muir Way Ultra Marathon is part of East Lothian Council’s John Muir Coast Festival, taking place throughout the weekend of 23 and 24 April and includes a festival at Foxlake from 12 noon till 10pm on the Saturday with music, food, stalls and a mini cinema.
