With the documentary capturing the imagination of running enthusiasts across the world, Achilles Heel has announced they will be bringing 'Town of Runners' to Glasgow. The specialist retailers will host two screenings of the feature length programme in their store on Great Western Road on June 14 and 15.
The documentary focuses on Bekoji, a highland town in Ethiopia, and its preoccupation with running. With an estimated population of 250,000, the town has produced an inordinate amount of internationally renowned distance athletes, including Derartu Tulu, and the Beijing double Olympic gold winners Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenenisa Bekele.
The feature-length programme also follows the training schedules of two budding athletes competing in national events and aiming to become professional. With British stars often visiting Kenya for specialist training trips, 'Town of Runners' is an intriguing insight into the world of African training.
Achilles Heel is aiming to seat 40 people per night during the screening and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, with a maximum allocation of two tickets per booking. The event is entirely free. If you are interested, email Achilles Heel. You can see a preview of the documentary here.
