A huge field of intrepid thrill-seekers headed to the Borders on Saturday (20 June) for the annual obstacle-laden Tough Mudder event. Held at Drumranlrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway, the 11-mile course saw participants tackle 26 obstacles designed by the Special Forces on their way to the finish line.
Borders Show They’re Tough Enough
The course is designed to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie, and this year included Sony’s Arctic Enema 2.0 obstacle, as part of a set of redefined obstacles. The Enema’s creators say that it added “a bigger dose of fun (and icy water) to the course”.
Despite the event’s reputation for spirit-crushing challenges, participant Karen Weatherston enjoyed the obstacles: “It became quickly clear that the obstacles were the best bits. Far from being hideous, humiliating and designed to expose my weakness, they were nothing but fun. I couldn’t believe how much I was enjoying it.”
