Tony The Fridge Nears Half Way

Tony the Fridge

This weekend saw Tony 'The Fridge' Phoenix-Morrison pass through his home city of Newcastle as he attempts to make the incredible journey from John O'Groats to Land's End. As ever, Tony is running with a 42.5kg fridge strapped to his back to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

His latest challenge will see him aim to travel the length of the UK in 40 days, a 1,053 mile journey that translates to 40 consecutive marathons. On his passage through the north east, Tony received a hero's welcome as he ran into St. James's Park before finishing at the Sir Bobby Robson statue outside the stadium.

Speaking of his journey through the north east, Tony said: "Getting over the hills of Carter Bar and dropping down into Northumberland was very emotional. It's been great running home to Newcastle and, I'm thinking, well what have I got to look forward to next?"

As it stands, Tony is hoping to reach Land's End on 11 September, which means he has over 600 miles still to cover. On what lies ahead in the coming weeks, he added: "That's a lot of days of pain, there's an arduous task ahead of me. But no doubt I'll meet many more people and have more adventures. Because of the magnitude of the journey, to think about that distance, would crush you."

Tony has so far raised over £38,000 for the charity. To sponsor him, visit his justgiving page.
