The sell-out Supernova Run returned to Helix Park in Falkirk this weekend with an additional event added to the 2017 format due to popular demand. The magnificent 30 metre, 300 ton Kelpies played host to three 5K events under the November night sky to provide a stunning backdrop for the 5K with a difference.
Events took place on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November and saw thousands of runners cross the finish line, guided home by the impressive LED-lit finishing straight. Each runner received a Supernova head torch as they gathered at the start line and completed the 5K route, creating a stunning human light show as they completed their 5K.
A fantastic atmosphere was generated by runners of all abilities with lots of fancy dress outfits on show. Runners ranged from tiny toddlers to glowing grandparents, all adding to the event's feel-good factor.
Behind the light-hearted luminosity were some incredible people running for some equally incredible causes.
The weekend saw Michelle Webster cross the Supernova Run finish line in a series of challenges she has set herself to raise awareness of secondary breast cancer culminating in an ultra marathon in 2018. She is doing so to support mum Julie and the 35,000 other women in the UK estimated to be living with this incurable disease in the UK.
Michelle is completing her challenges in aid of two charities close to her heart: her local Maggie's Centre in Fife who provided a wealth of practical and emotional support after mum Julie's diagnosis and Breast Cancer Care who are campaigning for an improved standard of care for those living with secondary breast cancer.
"The staff and volunteers at our local Maggie's have been amazing and offer a lifeline to those affected by cancer and their families" Michelle explained. After her mum's secondary diagnosis, Michelle quickly realised the care many other woman receive falls short of expected.
"Many women don't feel very informed or supported. Breast Cancer Care are trying to change that through their campaign - Secondary. Not Second Rate".
The 2018 Supernova Kelpies event will take place on 9, 10 & 11 November and entries will open this Tuesday (14 November) at 9am.
