West Dunbartonshire jogscotland leader Maurice Donohue is undertaking a challenge to run 50 half marathons in 2013 as he looks to raise funds for Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH). Sunday 23 June will mark Maurice's 25th race of the MO GO 50 challenge and to celebrate he is inviting other runners to join him.
The 'unofficial' half marathon and 10K training run will both start at the Meadow Centre on Bankhead Road in Dumbarton. The half marathon route goes past St Patrick's Primary and the Sports Pavilion before turning back at Dalmuir Drop Lock. The 10K follows the same route only turning back at Milton roundabout. You can view both half marathon and 10K routes on the mapymyrun website.
Maurice said: "I am keen to try and bring people together to take part in an event that will promote SAMH, but also jogging and running and give those an opportunity to complete a 10k or half marathon distance within the local area.
"This is a personal challenge for me as I turn 50 in January 2014, and hopefully I can encourage and inspire men women and children to achieve their own personal goals. With 2014 and the Commonwealth Games on the horizon, what better time to try and get everyone active, whether it's walking, jogging, running or taking part in some form of exercise to improve their health."
The event is free but if you wish to sponsor Maurice, you can do so by visiting his JustGiving page.
