If we can take anything from William Sichel\'s incredible performance at the recent 8 Day No Finish Line race in Monaco it is that seemingly insurmountable challenges can be achieved. The Scottish ultra distance runner broke the course record by covering a staggering 1002km in 192 hours.
Not that we all have the capability of breaking world records with just steely determination and a motivating playlist on our ipod. However, Sichel\'s performance, for an athlete who took up ultra distance running at the age of 41, suggests we may have the capacity to complete at least one gruelling challenge.
Perhaps with this in mind, the Run and Become team in Edinburgh will be holding an evening about the Marathon Des Sables, known as the toughest footrace on earth. The event, which takes place tomorrow - Tuesday, November 29, at 7pm, will feature several guest speakers sharing their knowledge on the six day adventure in the North Sahara.
Speakers include MDS veteran and expedition leader Dave Scott, experienced mult-day racer Donnie Campbell and Martin Myers, who completed the event for the first time last year. Discussion will include advice on what kit is needed, how to approach training for the challenge, and clips of previous races.
The presentation takes place at Run and Become, 66 Dalry Road, Edinburgh, from 7-9pm. The event is free and you can register at Edinburgh@runandbecome.com.
