The New Year's Honours list has strong recognition for the UK's running community with the awards for both Steve Cram and Fauja Singh (pictured). Former world champion Steve has been awarded the CBE while 103-year-old Fauja receives the British Empire Medal in recognition of his athletic achievements.
Cram, a former 1,500m world record holder, now commentates on athletics for the BBC, and is made a CBE in recognition of his recent work as chairman of the English Institute of Sport.
Fauja Singh has been an inspirational figure in international running since he took up the sport at the age of 89. He holds the world record for the marathon in his age group and completed his last competitive 26-mile race in Hong Kong only last year.
