Over 700 competitors took part in the 2017 Isle of Skye Half Marathon on Saturday (10 June). The race is renowned for being one of the UK’s most scenic and friendly races and this year’s edition more than lived up to that billing.
German runner Oliver Spaeth of TV Zell was victorious in the men’s race, clocking a time of 1:14:10. Spaeth produced a dominant display to finish over two minutes clear of Graham Bee (Inverness Harriers AAC) in second (1:16:44). Last year’s winner, Skye and Lochash’s Hugh Campbell had to settle for third on this occasion, with a time of 1:16:52.
There was local success for Skye and Lochash RC’s Iona Craft in the women’s race. Craft crossed the finish line in a time of 1:32:08 to hold off Livingston runner Avril Pearson (1:32:51) and Sarah Attwood (Knavesmire Harriers) who finished just four seconds behind in third.
