There was a 200% increase from last year in runners at the Skye Bridge 10K on Saturday (2 July). 63 competitors braved the Hebridean rain as they headed towards the mainland then back again.
The men’s race was won by Neil Hart in 37:35 with Emma Birnie finishing as fastest female (42.20). The midpoint runner was Colin Murdoch in 51:03 and the fun run winner was Fraser Reid.
The race saw participants leave Kyleakin Car Park before heading towards the White Heather Hotel and turning at the Brightwater Visitor Centre then going back through Kyleakin, across the bridge to Kyle of Lochalsh. For the mainland section, runners headed across a railway bridge, passing by the outskirts of Kyle and the village’s police station, then went back across Skye Bridge to Kyleakin.
After the race, runners flocked to social media to praise the event.
Donald Murdoch posted on Facebook: “A big thanks to all the organizers and marshals. Very well organized and most enjoyable. Even the rain was......... refreshing!”
Mairead Macdougall also commented: “Great event. Thanks to all the organisers. Good luck with getting Community Mini Bus. Next year I want a t-shirt though!”
