Short And Sweet

Shortbread

Those vowing to lead a more active lifestyle in 2014 have the chance to start off the new year on the right foot with Balloch's New Year's 5K Shortbread Run. Now in its third year, the event takes place on 2 January in Balloch Country Park.

The course route follows the pathways around the park, which starts at the main gates on Balloch Road, before taking in the stunning Balloch Castle. From there you will go around The Walled Garden area before returning back to the main gates of the park. An additional bonus of the route is the beautiful backdrop of the hills along Loch Lomond's shoreline.

The course will be marked out with directional signs but there will be limited stewarding. Children under 11 years of age, must be accompanied by an adult. It's a no-fuss event - no registration, no fee and no official recording of times - just turn up for the run/walk. You can view a map of the run/walk at MapMyRun. As you may have guessed from the name, shortbread will be given to each participant, courtesy of sponsors Valvona and Crolla.

There is a hotline number to check if the run has been cancelled due to severe weather - 07534365271

The race is organised by West Dunbartonshire jogscotland leader, Maurice Donohue, and starts at 10:30am. For more information, visit runnpark.leaguerepublic.com or email Maurice.
