Four Scots have been selected for the 23-strong GB and NI athletics team heading to Portland, USA for the World Indoor Champs. Lynsey Sharp, Chris O’Hare, Steph Twell and Josephine Moultrie will all compete in the tournament held on 17–19 March.
Twell automatically qualified following her performance in the 3000m at the Glasgow Grand Prix and her winning trial at the British Championships in Sheffield. She said of the news: “I’m excited about the prospect of racing in Portland. After my race in Glasgow at the Grand Prix I’m positive about looking towards the top 12. I want to be racing the girls I will be coming up against in the summer and I’d like to mix it up with them. I’m confident in my training and routine at the moment so if I can execute that, I know we are going in the right direction.”
European and Commonwealth silver medallist Lynsey Sharp and Chris O’Hare were chosen due to impressive indoor performances at the 800m and 1500m respectively (Sharp set a new Scottish indoor 800m record in Boston last month). While Moultrie achieved the qualifying time for 3000m as she took silver in Sheffield on Sunday.
She tweeted: “Excited to head to my first major championships at the World Indoor Champs in Portland!”
