Home runners stole the show at Aviemore Half Marathon and 10K yesterday (Sunday 15 October). An exciting day of running brought a hat-trick of victories for Scottish in runners in the featured races.
Shettleston Harrier Peter Avent was victorious in the half marathon – registering a time of 1:09:36 – over eight minutes clear of Aberdeen Metro's Iain Mason in second (1:17:38) and David Barclay of Garioch Road Runners, who clocked a time of 1:18:22 to take third.
The women’s race was won by Aberdeen’s Rachel Armitage (1:27:58), who narrowly edged out Jennifer Learmonth, second with a time of 1:28:13. Tring RC runner Iona Craft took third in 1:29:50.
Inverness AC’s Donnie MacDonald won a hotly contested 10K in 31:52, taking the prize ahead of Nick Freer of Hunter’s Bog Trotters, who ended 23 seconds behind in 34:15, while Southampton’s David Blackman clocked 35:04 on his way to a third-place finish.
On Saturday, British cross country skier, Sam Cairns led the warm-up and got the junior fun run underway – with over 250 children taking part.
