Debbie Martin-Consani has overtaken Pauline Walker to become the new Scottish 24-hour record holder. The Garscube Harrier broke Walker’s record of 130 miles over the weekend as she finished 14th at the International Association of Ultrarunning (IAU) 24 Hour Championships in Katowice, Poland.
Debbie clocked up an impressive 217.18k (134 miles) over the 24-hour period, and clubmate Sharon Law wasn’t far behind her with a tally of 210.4k (130.73 miles). Debbie and Sharon were members of the Team GB and NI squad who took bronze in the women’s team competition, finishing behind France and USA respectively.
Adrian Stott, of Edinburgh running store Run and Become was part of the GB Team management for the event and posted on Twitter: “Team GB achieved a very credible third place for the bronze medals in the World Championships and a second place in the concurrent European Championships.”
