Organisers of the popular Ayr Turkey Trot are once again expecting a strong turnout for their annual event on Monday, December 26. Come hangover or snowstorm, the race, which is organised by Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club, has regularly attracted 300 competitors for the 10k or 5k run on Boxing Day.
Beginning at the Citadel Leisure Centre on South Harbour St, the route is weather dependant and will take place on tarmac if there is no ice on the ground or revert to the beach if conditions are deemed to be dangerous underfoot.
Race organiser Alistair Stewart commented: "This is one of our most popular events and a great way of blowing away the cobwebs after Christmas. There is plenty of home-baking afterwards and runners will be rewarded for their efforts with a medal (5K) or a commemorative mug or kit bag (10K)."
The 5k race starts at 11:15am and 10k at 12 noon. Online entries close at midnight on December 24 but you can register on the day. Prices are set at £5 for the 5k and £10 (£8 for SAF members) for the 10k.
