The White Caterthun Half Marathon and 5k Fun Run will be held again in 2010 but with one important change for this year with the race being held on a Saturday. This is to avoid a clash with other local sporting activities and to attract a larger crowd for the Guide Dog charity display which will be shown in conjunction with the races.
The new date for the annual Angus event is Saturday, March 27. Registration at Brechin High School will open at 9am and close at 10:30am, with the Half Marathon starting at 11am followed shortly after by the 5k Fun Run.
The format of the HaM race is the same as last year, starting at Brechin High School the route quickly takes you out into the rolling countryside Angus and heads for the foothills of the Glens. Half way through the 13.1 mile course the route cuts off-road and climbs directly over the top of the White Caterthun, following a series of narrow tracks, before rejoining the road and descending back down into the farmlands and finally back to the high school where there will be a warm welcome and medals for all finishers.
At the same time there will be a shorter and less challenging 5K Fun Run for ten year old and upwards.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and organisers ask that, in addition to your entry fee, runners commit to raising a minimum of £50 sponsorship. All monies raised go directly to the Guide Dogs. Last year the event raised over £1400 and organisers are hoping to beat that figure in 2010.
