Taking part in a race in February may not seem like the most appealing idea to most Scots, but when the event is situated 50 miles south of Sicily it becomes a rather more attractive prospect. The mild temperatures and vast downhill sections make Malta Marathon on 23 February 2014 an ideal race to help you shake off the winter blues.
First held in 1986, the event features a full marathon, half marathon as well as a walkathon option. The marathon starts outside Malta's old capital Mdina, and takes in the famous town of Mosta as well as passing through current capital, Valetta, before finishing on the scenic front of Sliema. The half marathon follows a similar route but doesn't include the loop around Mosta.
Sports Tours International is offering UK runners various race packages for the event. One runner who took part through STI last year said:"It was a great trip, great race, and very good value for money. The hotel was first class with a superb location."
