The weekly Run n Park 5K gives runners in West Dunbartonshire the chance to enjoy the scenery of Balloch Country Park, and on 31 May participants will also get the chance to support the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH). The event takes place every Saturday at 9:30am and is untimed with no fee or registration.
As well as the 5k, organiser Maurice Donohue will soon be launching a 2k route for children and adults who find the 5k a little challenging. As a tribute the Commonwealth Games, the route will be 2014 metres in distance will also take an average time of 20 minutes and 14 seconds to complete.
Maurice, recently appointed as national programmes Get Active manager for SAMH, is currently in the midst of his MO GO 50 MORE Challenge. The challenge sees him attempt to complete 50 half marathons in 2014. Last weekend saw Maurice complete his 70th race in the 70th week of the challenge which dates back to 6 January 2013. Maurice recently received the Sports Champion Award at West Dunbartonshire's Provost's Civic Awards in recognition of his work promoting physical activity.
