Run Garioch Offering jogscotland Incentives

Run Garioch 5k Sponsor Launch

Inverurie's Run Garioch has announced new incentives for jogscotland groups entering their 5k race on 24 March 2013. Groups bringing a minibus of members to run the 5k (10-20 runners) are eligible for a payment of £100 towards their costs, and those bringing a coach (21+ runners) are eligible for a £150 contribution. Reserved coach parking is also included in the offer.

The incentives were announced at a launch at the Garioch Sports Centre last week. Organisers also revealed the third and final adult-race sponsor for the event - award-winning property developer Dandara. Dandara joins Specsavers Inverurie (10K) and Accord Energy of Aberdeen (half marathon) as the new sponsor of the 5K race.

Gillian Roberts of Dandara said: "Run Garioch is a fantastic festival and we are delighted to support this year's 5K. We hope that this offer will enable more jogscotland members to take part in what promises to be the best Run Garioch yet."

Planning for Run Garioch continues as the weeks count down, with several elite athletes - including Gareth Jenkins - having confirmed their places for the 10k. Improvements are also being made to the start/finish area based on feedback from runners. As well as competing in the 10k, Gareth is the active schools coordinator for the event.

He spoke about youth involvement in the 5k: "I really look forward to promoting the Dandara 5K, especially among secondary schools. A lot of young people think that the distance isn't achievable, but it is, especially with six weeks to go. We've promoted the event heavily in Oldmeldrum and Inverurie and hope other local schools will participate too. It would be great to have more people involved in the sport."

Training for all races with the Garioch Sports Centre's '10 Weeks to Run Garioch' programme is now well underway after a snowy start. Over 30 beginners are currently training with jogscotland jog leader Laura Binnie for the 5K. Laura said: "Training has been going really well, with not a single person dropping out. I'm so proud of all my runners, and they are making such great progress. Even those who didn't think they could run are running, and running further and faster as each week goes by."

Entries are now open on the Run Garioch website. Teams of four can still register for the 10K Corporate Challenge. There are also places remaining for the CP&Co Junior Run for children aged four (who do not have to be in school) to 12. jogscotland applications are limited and must be made by 11 March to info@rungarioch.co.uk.
