Ruby's Ayrshire Hospice 5K and Family Fun Day took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday 14 June and the organisers, East Ayrshire Council's Leisure Development and the Kilmarnock Harriers have already smashed last year's fundraising total by raising £6,800 with more sponsor money still to come in.
159 runners took part in the race and almost 2,000 people were at Dean Castle to support the event. The winners of the 5k races were:
1st lady: Kara Tait, Kilmarnock Harriers - 18.59 minutes
2nd lady Sarah Munn, Irvine AC - 20.00 minutes
3rd lady Val Martin, unattached - 20.11 minutes
1st man Stuart Gibson - 16.45 minutes, Ron Hill Cambuslang
2nd man Brian Craig, 18.10 minutes, Irvine AC
3rd man Ross Connelly, 18.32 minutes, Kilmarnock Harriers
There were many winners of the raffle which would not have been possible without the help of sponsors ASDA, JH Donald, Blues Restaurant, Loudoun Castle Theme Park, Scottish Rugby, Trophy Centre, the Palace Theatre and the Galleon Centre. The organisers would like to give special thanks go to Greggs the Bakers, the main sponsors of the event who stepped in with last minute sponsorship. Everyone who participated in the 5K Run received a reusable cotton goody bag, sponsored by Greggs the Bakers.
20th Ruby Race
Next year is the 20th anniversary of Ruby's 5K, so it promises to be bigger and better than ever. The 2010 event will take place on Sunday 13 June at Dean Castle Country Park. 2010 registration forms will be available from March 2010.
