Entering running events can be a pricey business, so it's a refreshing change to see that Rousay Lap 2014 on the Orkney island of Rousay will have no entry fee (although your bus fare there could be a bit expensive!). Participants can run, walk or cycle the half marathon on 30 August.
As one of the northern isles of Orkney, Rousay features stunning sea views, challenging hills, Neolithic archaeology, one of the highest public roads in the Orkney Islands, and interesting wildlife along the route. The race was first held in 2009 with 72 participants completing the course last year.
The event is organised by Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre Development Trust. For more information and an application form go to the Orkney Communities website or email Helen@rewdt.org
