Scotland's finance minister, John Swinney, swapped his usual shirt and tie for a Saltire-inspired running vest on Sunday as he took part in Rome Marathon in wet and windy conditions. The Perthshire North MSP was part of a record 14,608 participants for the 20th staging of the race.
The SNP member's Italian exploits follow on from his performance at last year's Highland Perthshire Half Marathon to raise funds for MS Society.
Swinney completed Rome Marathon in 4:46:45 and said afterwards on Twitter: "Today I ran my first - and probably only - marathon. It was in Rome and was stunning. Loved it."
The men's race was won by Shume Hailu Legese Ethiopia in 2:09:47 with his compatriot Ayelu Lemma Geda fastest female in 2:34:49. The Italian capital's course takes in landmarks such as St. Peter's Square, the Vatican Walls, the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain.
