“The Road to the Isles Half Marathon is more than just a road race, it’s an experience,” according to its organisers. The race will be held on May Bank Holiday (29 April 2017) alongside a 10K, 5K, and a Walk on the Wildside.
By holding the event, organisers are hoping to raise funds to go towards a £1.1m refurbishment programme for Mallaig Leisure Centre, which will enable staff to continue to provide the community with a resource for the future. With a whopping £275,000 contribution from the Highland Council last month, Mallaig Pool & Leisure is well and truly on its way to hitting its ambitious target!
The Road to the Isles Half Marathon is ideal for those looking to challenge themselves physically against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery. The stunning route sees participants snake through ancient woodland, by pretty coastal villages, run beside glorious beaches before heading on to pass Loch Morar, the deepest freshwater loch in Britain; River Morar, the shortest river in Britain and Loch Nevis, the deepest seawater loch in Europe.
