There are several event options for runners in Central Scotland this weekend. On Saturday (9 March) Glasgow hosts the Jack Crawford Springburn Cup 10K and the Demon Run series returns to the city; on Sunday there is the Gartmorn 6 in Alloa and the Stroke Association's Resolution Run in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park.
The Springburn Cup 10K, organised by Springburn Harriers, sees runners head along the Forth & Clyde Canal Towpath. Named after Springburn Harrier Jack Crawford, the 10k starts at Darnley Crescent before heading east to Cadder along the southside path, then going west to Lambhill along the northside path prior to returning east and the finish at the Leisuredrome.
Also in Glasgow, the Demon Run is held this year at Mugdock Park (Strathclyde Park was the venue in 2012). The race is organised and designed by ex-military personnel and experienced personal trainers, with the intention of challenging participants both physically and mentally. Organisers stress that it isn't an obstacle course, but a nasty trail run with some challenges along the way.
For a less daunting prospect, there is the Resolution Run at Bellahouston Park on Sunday. Laura Doherty from Clydebank will be taking part in the 5k and spoke to scottishrunningguide.com about the event: "I have been encouraged into running the Resolution Run by a couple of my colleagues. I was enlisted last Thursday - a full ten days before the run itself!
"I'm a little worried about not being prepared for the run. It has been several months since I ran anything over 3k but I'm also glad that it's given me a a fitness goal. I have been a little laid back recently, it's about time I make a start on those 2013 resolutions."
Further east is the Gartmorn 6 in Alloa, sponsored by Up and Running Stirling. The race starts and finishes in Carsebridge Row, Sauchie and follows the traditional route around Gartmorn Dam. There is also a junior event which is just under two miles. Race registration, post race food and prizegiving is at the Sauchie Hall, Mar Place.
