Neil Renault (Edinburgh AC) shrugged off organisers' claims that parts of the Barrathon would regress you to 'being the four year old child who needs a cuddle from Mummy' by setting a new record at the race on Sunday (30 June). His time of 1:13:13 beat the previous record by nearly two minutes.
Gloria White repeated last year's achievement of being the first female finisher and took over two minutes off her previous time to finish in 1:30:10. The midpoint runner was Rachel Shankland in 02:02:19. A total of 242 runners completed this year's race.
One of those runners was Allan Harris who said: "Barrathon done. Cracking run, did it in 1hr 44mins. Roll on next year!"
The undulating course followed a clockwise circuit of the island with the lowest point being near sea level and the highest point being just under 350 ft.jParticipants started and finished in Castle Bay and in addition to the undulations were offered some respite with a mile-long descent.
