A sell-out field will tackle the Devil O’ The Highlands Footrace as it celebrates its 15th anniversary on Saturday (1 August). The event is the second oldest ultra marathon in Scotland after the West Highland Way Race.
Race The Devil
The 42-mile point-to-point race heads along the West Highland Way trail through the Highlands, starting in Tyndrum and finishing in Fort William. The route goes through Bridge of Orchy and over Mam Carraigh to Inveroran before crossing Rannoch Moor to arrive at the Glencoe Ski Centre. Participants then tackle the Devil's Staircase before a steep descent down to Kinlochleven, heading on to the biggest climb of the day: over 1000ft of ascent from Kinlochleven up across the Lairig Mor to Lundavra. From this point, there are seven more miles to the finish in Fort William.
Around 95% of the route is off-road with a few short sections on tarmac. The off-road sections are predominantly wide paths and old drove roads.
