There's good news for anyone who missed last month's entry deadline for Baxters Loch Ness marathon. Organisers have announced they are extending the deadline for charity, club and overseas runners until 10 September. For those who would prefer to run a shorter distance, the same deadline will apply for entries into River Ness 10K, 10K Corporate Challenge, 5K Fun Run and Wee Nessie - all part of the Festival of Running taking place alongside the marathon on Sunday 30 September.
Race director, Malcolm Sutherland, said: "Although the deadline for guaranteed entry into this year's Baxters Loch Ness Marathon has passed, the good news is that charity, club and overseas runners still have until 10 September to enter. And we're offering a 10% discount for clubs and tour operators who enter 10 or more runners at the same time across all events."
The race has been voted as one of the UK's favourite marathons and is also one of the most scenic, following open countryside roads through wild moorland, along the shores of the iconic loch, through supportive local villages into Inverness and over the River Ness to the finish line.
Runners in last year's event raised over £1million for charity and race organisers are confident that the extended deadline could see a record amount of money raised this year. The nominated charities for the race are Alzheimer Scotland, Breast Cancer Care, Erksine, Highland Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support as well as over 35 other associated charities.
