To celebrate World Heritage Day on 18 April, runners will re-enact history at the Antonine Wall, near Falkirk. The Roman vs Picts 5K, held in partnership with the Falkirk Community Trust as part of the nationwide Scotland in Six Celebrations, will see face-painted Picts chase helmet-wearing Romans around the grounds and forestry surrounding Callendar House.
Organisers will supply some accessories but participants are highly encouraged to bring their own costumes. There will be awards for the winners of each category as well a prizes for best costumes. Each participant will also walk away with the severed head of their enemies… ok, that part’s a joke. There will however be participant medals.
After the event, Callendar House will play host to the Great Roman Bake Off where attendees can indulge in delicious treats and vote for their favourites at the Roman-themed bake sale. The event is free but there is a suggested donation of £5 to support a Falkirk Community Trust STEM project with local schools.
