A healthy congregation of fifteen Giffnock North AAC runners helped to make the first August Glasgow parkrun a successful event. Despite the Bay City Rollers and the MacDonald Brothers playing at Glasgow Green, some 216 runners participated in the weekly 5k event. The stars at Pollok Park included David Phee who took six seconds off of the course record and Erica Christie, who won the Women's Race for the fifth time.
In only his second running, Giffnock's David Phee (22) maintained his 100% record of being first over the finishing line and set a new course record of 15:26. David improved his PB by 27 seconds to hold off a strong challenge by, hill running champion, Jethro Lennox (32) of Shettleston. Cambuslang's Robert Gilroy (33) in his tenth time of competing, having won the previous nine, had to settle for third spot with a time of 16:00.
In her 17th running of the Glasgow parkrun, Bellahouston Harrier Erica Christie (54) won the women's race in 20:14. Giffnock North's Jacqui Cowan (V45) completed her 10th parkrun to finish in second place in a time of 20:45. The Civil Servant beat Clydesdale's Marina McCallum (38) by a slender margin of six seconds.
Giffnock's Heather McCallum (14) finished in 170th position with a time of 28:10. Heather told the SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE "This was my eighth parkrun of the year and my worst performance. I was feeling tired and the hills took their toll but I had a decent finish and I'm looking forward to my ninth one already."
