The Push – formerly known as The Great Pentlands Push – returns on 19 September this year, challenging people to take on the Pentland Hills and see the 'real' Edinburgh. The sports challenge organised by St Columba’s Hospice, sees participants choose one of three routes (14 mile bronze, 20 mile silver and 25 mile gold) to run, walk or hike over and through the Pentlands.
Registration is £60 until 31 March (£75 thereafter) and Nudge (shorter version) registration is £25. For your registration fee you will receive an event T-shirt, parking, medal, goody bag, hot meals, refreshments and entertainment (Push entrants also get a sports massage!).
Participants are asked to raise £325 in fundraising, which helps to support the hospice’s work, treating and caring for patients with life limiting illnesses in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and supporting their families and carers.
Romany Morrice has completed The Push three times now – once whilst pregnant – and aims to continue taking part every year: “The route was fantastic, easy to navigate as there are orange markers along the way which help a lot. The refreshments stops are a lot of fun and the map you are given shows exactly when the next one is and by following this it really makes the route easy.
“I am aiming to take part every year as long as people keep sponsoring me - it is such a great experience. I would urge everyone to give it a go. The best moment of the day is crossing the finishing line with a huge smile and a tear in your eye feeling very proud, having a pint and taking your shoes off!”
