Micah True, immortalised by Christopher McDougall's Born to Run, has been found dead in New Mexico after a four-day search. Better known as Caballo Blanco, suspicions surrounding True's disappearance were raised after he failed to return from a routine 12 mile run last Tuesday.
The cause of True's death is not yet known, although initial reports suggest there were no obvious signs of trauma. The runner's body was found in the mountainous Gila National Forest in southwest New Mexico, near the Arizona border.
Chronicled in McDougall's non-fiction work, Caballo Blanco, or White Horse, was the race director for the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon, a gruelling 50 mile race through northern Mexico. True was the first point of contact to the Tarahumara for McDougall, with the ultra runner immersed in the traditions of the tribe.
In a Twitter message, the author said of his friend: "Caballo had the only funeral he would have wanted: his friends spent days running in the wilderness in his honour."
