Parkrun is now an international phenomenon with events in Australia, Denmark, Iceland, Poland and South Afric. UK parkrunners regularly report visits to these countries and participation in their favourite 5K timed event. To encourage good international relations, organised trips are now being arranged to let UK runners sample the flavour of parkrun in other countries.
Next month the Reykjavik parkrun team is welcoming a group of parkrunners from Britain to the Ellioaardalur parkrun on Saturday, May 26. This follows a similar trip for the inaugural parkrun there last October.
The trip to Iceland includes a three day stay in the city. The parkrun course is very scenic with parts that run alongside streams, waterfalls and stretches of forest. After the run, there is the opportunity to socialise with the Icelandic parkrunners either in the naturally heated outdoor pool and tubs, or over coffee.
