parkrun is hoping to launch a new event at Tollcross Park in the east end of Glasgow but needs the support of the public to do so. Organisers are asking people to email GlasgowOffice @parkrun.com to show their support for the run.
The free, timed 5k parkrun events take place across the UK and around the world. Organisers said of the proposed Tollcross run: "We need to demonstrate there is local interest. We'll acknowledge your email, and include your email in an appendix showing evidence of local support in our next funding application which will hopefully be submitted to the council on Friday (1 February).
"We all love the Glasgow parkrun at Pollok Park but it is not fair to the rest of the city to keep all the fun to ourselves and so we are hoping that a new parkrun can be set up soon at Tollcross Park.Tollcross is a beautiful park with rose gardens and a children's farm and it has lots of potential for a parkrun. It is also adjacent to the new Commonwealth Aquatic Centre which is to open in the spring."
