To mark the ninth anniversary of its very first event in Bushy, the first Saturday of October will now be international parkrun day. To celebrate, runners are being encouraged to make a short 30 second video clip at their local event and share it with the parkrun community via social media using the hashtag #loveparkrun.
Founded by Paul Simon-Hewitt, Bushy parkrun - then known as Bushy Park Time Trial - attracted just 13 competitors on its first staging on 2 October, 2004. Now, parkrun boasts more than 300 events across eight countries in the world, with Bushy regularly drawing in over 1,000 runners.
'International parkrun day' has been chosen as a theme to underline how each of the events promotes a type of community spirit, be it forming new friendships, seeing runners you recognise or encouraging first-timers.
The favourite video clips will be used to make the first global parkrun promotional film. For more information, visit the parkrun news section.
