Olympic icons Daley Thompson and Sharron Davies will visit Glasgow tomorrow (17 August) as part of the Join In Local campaign which sees over 5,000 events held across the country to celebrate the success of the London Games. The two Olympians will join forces to complete a cross-country challenge, anchored by BBC broadcaster John Inverdale, that involves boarding the Join In 'Battle Bus' and stopping off at sports clubs across the UK and taking part in events as well as encouraging local communities to get involved.
The first stop for the Battle Bus will be the Shettleston Harriers Athletics Club in Glasgow on Friday afternoon. The club will be putting on a 'faster, higher, stronger' style event where locals can try and emulate Team GB’s performance on the track and field. Participants can see how they measure up to Usain Bolt in the 100m, compare themselves to gold medallist Greg Rutherford in the long jump, or have a go at hurdling like heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis. The event starts at 4pm and is open to anyone aged eight and above. For more information on the Join in Local campaign visit their website
