Over 300 Irish runners are preparing for Dublin's own version of the New York Marathon this weekend. The event, which has been organised to ensure those who had intended to compete in New York can honour their charity commitments, will take place at Phoenix Park this Sunday (18 November).
Assistant race director, Eugene Coppinger, explained: "A lot of people who were planning to run in New York have collected a lot of money for charity and they might feel guilty accepting that money if they don't complete a marathon. That is why we want to give them that opportunity."
The event has been fully supported by the organisers of the New York Marathon, who have provided the official race vests and medals the competitors would have received. Sunday's race is due to start outside the American Ambassador's Residence at 9:30am.
