Runners seeking to blow away the cobwebs on Friday, 2 January need look no further than Balloch Country Park and the New Year's Shortbread 2K Walk, Jog or Run. Now celebrating its fourth year, the Shortbread 2K gives all participants the chance to kick start their New Year’s resolution to get fit and active by going that extra mile or 1.25 miles to be precise. The 2015 renewal is set to be special with a guest appearance by top Scottish running mascot, the Hairy Haggis.
Event organiser – West Dunbartonshire AC, invites local walkers, joggers and runners to come along and lace up their trainers on the second day of the New Year and take part in the event located in the scenic National Park. The 2015 metre course route follows the pathways around the park starting at the main gates, passing Balloch Castle and the Walled Garden with the beautiful backdrop of the hills, before returning to the start at Balloch Road.
The Shortbread 2K starts at 10.30am just inside the main gates of the Park which is on Balloch Road - opposite the bus terminus next to the Co-Operative supermarket. It's an informal affair - no registration, no fee and no official recording of times. Just turn up for a walk, jog or run in the park. Post event all participants will enjoy a complimentary piece of shortbread, courtesy of sponsors Walkers.
