Runners across Scotland can counter 'seasonal excesses' by taking part in a number of events scheduled over the next few days. New Years Day sees the popular Portobello Promathon and the Aonach Mor Uphill race and there are also special parkrun events in Glasgow, Strathclyde Park, Camperdown Park (Dundee) and Aberdeen.
2 January offers opportunities in Ayrshire (Beith Harriers New Year Road Races), Fife (Tortoise and Hare Relays - Giffordtown) and Aberdeenshire (Lumphanan Detox 10K). There are also events in Lenzie (New Year Jog) and at Balloch Park (5K Shortbread Run & Walk).
The 1 January parkrun events in Aberdeen and Dundee are scheduled for the later start time of 10.30am. However Glasgow and Strathclyde parkruns are at 9.30am as normal. Please confirm these details and also that events will be going ahead - recent heavy rain has meant that some venues are making alternative arrangements - at the various parkrun Facebook pages.
Maurice Donahue at jogscotland West Dumbarton is extending a warm seasonal welcome to the Shortbread 5K: "Start the year on a healthy footing at Balloch's New Year's 5K Shortbread Run & Walk. It's your chance to take part in your first 5K of 2013. Now celebrating its second year, this event offers a great course that follows the pathways around Balloch Park and includes the Walled Garden and the Loch Lomond shoreline."
