New Trail Ultra Launched

Keilder Ultra TrailHigh Trail Events has confirmed details of a brand new race, the Kielder Ultra Trail, scheduled for Sunday 27 April. The unique event will be give runners the choice of 50k and 100k distances, both of which will be set in the vast expanse of Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumberland.

The 50k course will be one loop encircling the whole of Kielder Water, incorporating the tranquil Lewisburn Valley, Bakethin Reservoir nature reserve and sections of the Lakeside Way. The route also climbs onto open moorland on a number of occasions to offer stunning panoramic views over the whole of Kielder Water and across to the Scottish Border.
In addition to the sections covered on the 50k route, the 100k will incorporate a tough section climbing to Peel Fell straddling the English/Scottish Border and at 1,990' is the highest point in the area. Both routes will be fully marked so no need for navigation.

Event director Ian Mulvey, of High Terrain Events, said: “The wide variety of terrain in Kielder and the sheer size of the area make it an absolutely fantastic location for an ultra. We've been out checking the trails throughout the winter and have come up with some superb routes. It's harsh unforgiving terrain so it's ideal for what we're after and really will make this a truly memorable event for anyone who relishes a challenge."

The Kielder Ultra will also form the first counting event in the newly created Ultra Trail Series organised by High Terrain Events, alongside the Scafell Pike Trail Marathon, Lakeland 3x3000 80K and Ennerdale 50K. Full details can be found at the High Terrain Events website.
