Organisers of the Peterhead Running Festival are hoping to attract more children and families to the event this year by moving the event date from September to June. The festival - organised by Peterhead jogscotland in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council and Peterhead Football Club - will be held for the third time on 30 June.
The event, which attracted 700 runners last year, consists of a half marathon, 5k, and a school fun run. The half marathon starts on the Buchan and Formantine Line, and takes you out to the Buchan countryside through Inverugie and the village of St Fergus, then back into the Maggie Black Trail, before finishing at the Peterhead Running track next to the Peterhead Football Stadium. The festival will this year include an open day for Peterhead Football Club - giving participants a chance to meet and be photographed with their favourite Peterhead players.
Shell will again be the main sponsor for the festival which includes the Shell School Fun Runs, in partnership with Aberdeenshire Active Schools. A free event, last year the Shell School Fun Runs attracted over 450 school children from 36 schools throughout Aberdeenshire.
Stephen Bruce of the organising committee said: "After the success of last year's event, we are really thrilled and honoured that Shell has once again decided to be our main sponsor. By changing the date from the middle of September to Sunday 30 June, we hope to attract more children and families. "
