A new running event is set to take place on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll on 12 October 2013. Part of the CowalFest walking & outdoor festival, the CowalFest 10K and 5K Fun Run will be held in the scenic Benmore Botanic Gardens (pictured).
The run will begin at the car park and follow more or less the perimeter of the gardens, for 5k runners this will be once round the perimeter, for 10k runners it will be repeated. The undulating course consists of paths (some narrow), forest roads, steps and shingle. No running spikes are allowed and competitors must stay on the designated paths at all times. All participants must step through the footpath on entering and leaving the Gardens.
Runners can refresh themselves after the race at the cafe which provides coffees, teas, light meals and excellent baking. There are toilet facilities on site as well as the Benmore Shop which sells a fascinating range of gifts, cards, books and plants. The Gardens will be open to the public so friends and family accompanying runners can enjoy them.
