It was a weekend of highly questionable facial hair across the UK as Movember launched last weekend with Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester and Newcastle hosting MoRuns. The MoRuns events aim to raise awareness and funds for men's health charities and are the official running partner of Movember.
Starting in Scotland, Glasgow Green was awash with fetching moustaches as almost 700 participants enjoyed sunny weather for 5k and 10k runs. In the Scottish capital, Edinburgh MoRunners braved chilly conditions to tackle the iconic Arthur’s Seat: Berra Matteo led the male contingent home in 37:06 over 10K, with Emma Hodson strongest in the female field (40:48).
A hysterical crowd of MoRunners enjoyed glorious sunshine in Manchester, as a field of over 800 descended upon Heaton Park. It was Newcastle’s first opportunity to host a MoRun event and the city didn’t disappoint with an amazing crowd turning out at Exhibition Park. Newcastle also saw the quickest 10k time of the four events, with Martin Barwood winning (by more than a whisker) in 34:29 ahead of Mark Likeman (36:09).
There are eight more MoRuns scheduled for the coming weeks, all of which encourage participants to wear a moustache, whether stuck on, drawn on or carefully grown for Movember and there are prizes for the best fancy dress. Everyone who enters receives a moustache medal, MoRunning headband, full race chip timing and a Movember goody bag.
