With less than one month to go until the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games, team GB's Mo Farah has proven he is bang in championship form by retaining his European 5000m title in Helsinki on Wednesday. The 29 year old Londoner hung on to the crown he won two years ago in Barcelona. In total, it is the sixth continental gold medal he has won on track, cross country or indoors.
Mo Farah won seemingly with plenty in hand as he cruised away from the rest of the pack on the last lap with a searing burst, covering the final 400m in less than 54 seconds. Silver went to Germany's Arne Gabius, just two seconds adrift and bronze to Turkey's Polat Kemboi Arikan. Farah will next race at the Aviva London Grand Prix meeting at Crystal Palace on 13/14 July before a possible date with destiny at the Olympic Games.
