Metro Aberdeen have claimed the British and Scottish team gold at the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon. Lifetime best runs from Fiona Brian, Jennifer Elvin and Hazel Wyness in a collective time of 8:44:59 helped the trio finish in front of their nearest rivals Kent.
Brian clocked a time of 2:53:50, Elvin finished just under a minute later (2:54:41) and Wyness smashed her own personal best by 13 minutes to complete the 26.2 miles in 2:56:28. Garscube Harriers finished second fastest Scottish team while Carnegie Harriers were third.
Invercylde took the top prize in the Scottish men’s ahead of Hunters Bog Trotters and Edinburgh AC.
Robbie Simpson and Susan Partridge triumphed in the Scottish Marathon Championship. Simpson’s time of 2:15:04 also earned him second place in the British race - ensuring he is an automatic selection for the World Championship in London this summer, where he joins Callum Hawkins in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team.
Unfortunately, there was some disappointment for Partridge as her time wasn’t good enough to reach the standard for the World Championship.
Following Simpson home for silver was Inverclyde AC’s Craig Ruddy with Fife AC’s Andrew Lemoncello taking the bronze. Central AC athlete Fanni Gyurko took second in the women’s with 2:41:20 and Garscube’s Katie White finished third in 2:42:37.
