Men in Scotland are being encouraged to embrace their inner superheroes this summer and enter the Men’s 10K Festival. The event is held in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on the weekend of 14-15 June. For the first time, the festival will include a 5K event, organised as part of the jogscotland Challenge Series 2014.
The Men’s 5K is open to all males aged 11 and over, and takes place on Saturday along with a kid’s 3K race, The Family 3. There’s also a post 5K/pre-10K ;Grub and a Giggle' event where festival goers can get a healthy, carb-filled meal while they are entertained by comedian Des Clarke.
Sarah McMillan, event manager for The Men's 10K Festival, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be working with jogscotland and to be able to introduce a Men's 5K event to our Festival this year.
“The 5K audience is a whole new kettle of fish for us and we’re excited to be able to offer a new distance for men in Glasgow and beyond. The fact that the events fall on Father’s Day weekend (and the end of International Men’s Health Week) is no coincidence either; we have men of all ages, backgrounds and abilities taking part – pals, workmates, dads, sons, brothers, even grandfathers – all proving that they do care about their health and they are the source of great inspiration to each other and to the thousands of kids who attend each year. To us, they are all heroes!"
