Excitement is building for the 2015 Meadows Marathon with less than two months until the race on Sunday 8 March. The event is organised by University of Edinburgh student volunteers and takes place on the city’s Meadows.
This year’s event features a 5K Fun Run, 10K, Half Marathon and Full Marathon. 2014 saw a number of young people taking part in the races, with an 11-year-old winning the 5K!
The registration fees will benefit the event’s 12 charity partners, a range of local and international charities including British Red Cross, Health in Mind, First Aid Africa and Best Buddies Edinburgh. Runners can also fundraise for a charity partner or a charity of their choice - the fundraising target for 2015 is £25,000.
Organisers say: “This is a great event to promote both health and fitness and fulfil some New Year’s resolutions. The Meadows Marathon has a really relaxed and fun atmosphere and lots of people like to dress up in costume to complete our events. There are group discounts of 10% for groups of 5+ signing up together and 15% for groups 10+. Please note that for safety reasons under-16s must be registered for the event by an adult and supervised on the day.”
